ASSESSMENT TOOLS & CALCULATORS
How many calories do you burn every day?
Calorie Counter: Calories Expended based on age, measurements & exercise
This assessment helps you to calculate your body mass index and calories expended. BMI is a good predictor of chronic health problems.
BMI is determined by your age and weight, and then healthy BMI ranges are sometimes adjusted to some degree depending on gender and age. These four variables determine your base metabolic rate, which is a measure of how many calories you would burn while performing the absolute basic functions necessary for living and breathing (resting in a temperate environment when the digestive system is inactive). This basic metabolism is then impacted on by your activity level, which then determines how many calories you actually burn in a day.
The categories for BMI range are the following:
18.5> Underweight
18.5 – 25 Healthy weight
25< Overweight
30< Obese
By accurately calculating our daily calories expended we can make adjustments to our BMI and thus health by measures such as increasing exercise or reducing the calories or type of calories that we consume.
