Body Fat Percentage Calculator – Metric

Body Fat Calculator: This tool uses basic body measurements in order to calculate your body fat percentage. Body Fat is actually a better predictor of cardiovascular illness than Body Mass Index but it is calculated less frequently as it is more complicated to calculate.

This tool uses demographic data, physical measurements and activity level in order to calculate your body fat percentage. Statistical regression models demonstrate clearly that percentage body fat, rather than BMI, is independently associated with cardiovascular risk factors. Body Mass Index correlated to some degree with body fat percentage, which is why it also has some degree of predictive ability in terms of cardiovascular illness. However, body fat percentage and not BMI is independently associated with cardiovascular risk factors. So why then does BMI tend to get used so frequently as a predictor of obesity and cardiovascular risk? Well, the truth is that Body Mass Index is just much easier to calculate! While this assessment tool does also provide you with your Base Metabolic Rate, Body Mass Index and daily calories consumed, it also provides you with both your amount of body fat and body fat percentage. The key provided will allow you to interpret whether – based on your age and gender – your body fat percentage is in the healthy range. If this is not the case then you might want to consider seeing your doctor and/or making some lifestyle changes to reduce calories, saturated fats and/or high GI carbohydrates as well as increasing your activity level.
